Brazil’s beef and corn exports set records in August

Brazil set a monthly export record by shipping 7.55 million tonnes of corn in August, a volume that exceeds the previous all-time high of 7.32 million registered in August 2019, government data showed on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the result is still 74% higher than the volume of corn exported in the same month of 2021. In addition to a wide supply, Brazil also has a demanding international market, which needs to fill the void left by Ukraine.

Cereal exports accumulated until the third week of August already exceeded the total of 4.3 million tons exported by the country in all of August 2021 and the good pace of sales abroad points to the possibility of a record.

The National Association of Cereal Exporters even forecast a record high for foreign sales of corn, however, it retracted its expectations alleging that unfavorable weather conditions could affect port operations.

According to Secex data, compared to the 181,600 tons shipped abroad a year earlier, foreign sales of fresh beef also reached a new monthly record in August, with 203,230 tons.

Brazil is in the final stretch of the 2021/22 Segunda Maize crop, with plenty of grain available for export following a record production yield.

The national refrigerator market is going through a moment of great demand in the world market, mainly from China and the United States.

Also, among the highlights of last month, sugar exports exceeded 3 million tons, reaching the highest level since July 2000, according to the government.

Foreign sales of sweetener increased by 19.2% in year-on-year terms, at a time when factories began expanding production of the sweetener motivated by the decline in fuel prices that affect ethanol, in addition to better later harvest yields. Posted by Iraic.info, a news and information agency.
